Turn off Protected View in Excel to improve performance of opening Excel documents from the SmartVault Drive

Table of contents

Overview

Excel's Protected View feature opens documents in read-only mode, and disables editing functions.  There are several reasons why documents are opened in read-only mode.  Documents opened from the SmartVault Drive are considered "Files originating from the internet" and are opened in Protected Mode by default.

Cause

This feature however, slows down the opening of excel documents from the SmartVault Drive.  Turning off protected mode for Files originating from the internet will increase the speed of which excel files open from the SmartVault Drive.
