For Lacerte 2014 users:

SmartVault now supports Lacerte 2014

For SmartVault Tax Plan users, SmartVault now supports integration with the new Lacerte 2014 application. This new version of Lacerte brings several additional features for working with SmartVault from Lacerte. We included the most notable changes in these release notes.

You can select SmartVault integration per user and per application year

Lacerte now integrates with SmartVault for only those users that grant the application access. For example, if you have multiple users all on one computer, only the users that allow SmartVault to integrate with Lacerte will see SmartVault tools appear in Lacerte. Additionally, you can choose integration settings for SmartVault according to the tax application year. For example, you can grant SmartVault access to Lacerte 2014, but then deny SmartVault access to Lacerte 2013.

A PDF retains watermarks when printing to SmartVault

Previously, when printing a document from Lacerte to SmartVault, the resulting PDF would lose any watermark set on it. As of Lacerte 2014, PDFs now print to SmartVault and retain their watermarks. Lacerte 2013 will not be updated to contain this feature.

A PDF retains bookmarks when printing to SmartVault

Previously, when printing a document from Lacerte to SmartVault, the resulting PDF would lose any bookmarks set on it. As of Lacerte 2014, PDFs now print to SmartVault and retain their bookmarks. Lacerte 2013 will not be updated to contain this feature.

You can print more document types to SmartVault

Additional document types include:

  • E-file Acceptance Letter and Signature Document
  • Additional Custom Copy, Partial Return, Extension Return Types
  • Client Detail, DB Reports, Input Sheets, Blank Forms

You can use SmartVault in a hosted environment

Our QA teams have tested SmartVault using a hosted environment for Lacerte and the results have shown SmartVault as enabled for use with Lacerte 2014 in hosted environments. However, since each host company implements different technologies, please contact our Support Team to discuss how we can work with your hosting company to make SmartVault available in your hosted environment. Lacerte 2013 will not be updated to support this feature.

For ProSeries 2014 users:

SmartVault now supports ProSeries 2014

For SmartVault Tax Plan users, SmartVault now supports integration with the new ProSeries 2014 application. ProSeries 2014 doesn’t bring with it as many changes as does Lacerte 2014, but SmartVault retains all functionality available with ProSeries 2013.

You can select SmartVault integration per user and per application year

ProSeries now integrates with SmartVault for only those users that grant the application access. For example, if you have multiple users on one computer, only the users that allow SmartVault to integrate with ProSeries will see SmartVault tools appear in ProSeries. Additionally, you can choose integration settings for SmartVault according to the tax application year. For example, you can grant SmartVault access to ProSeries 2014, but then deny SmartVault access to ProSeries 2013.

You can use SmartVault in a hosted environment

Our QA teams have tested SmartVault using a hosted environment for ProSeries and the results have shown SmartVault as enabled for use with ProSeries 2014 in hosted environments. However, since each host company implements different technologies, please contact our Support Team to discuss how we can work with your hosting company to make SmartVault available in your hosted environment. ProSeries 2013 will not be updated to support this feature.

Additional changes:

You can edit each SmartVault integration option for all Lacerte or ProSeries applications you have installed in the User Settings

We’ve added a section in User Settings to control each individual SmartVault integration for each year’s version of Lacerte or ProSeries you currently have installed. See this help article for more details.

In the Import dialog, each tax application you have installed is listed as an import source

As long as you have set each installed tax application to integrate with SmartVault, all installed versions of Lacerte and ProSeries will now display as sources to create a new import job.

Printing a client tax return from Lacerte or ProSeries 2014 to SmartVault creates a TY14 engagement folder structure

Now that support for SmartVault integration with Lacerte and ProSeries 2014 is finalized, printing any client’s tax return from Lacerte or ProSeries 2014 to SmartVault will create a new TY14 tax engagement folder structure if one does not already exist.

You can now access a migration log from the Portal Dashboard

We’ve added a migration log to the SmartVault Portal Dashboard. You can view migration information using various filters to quickly find a specific migration for which you’re searching. The migration log also contains a migration’s status and allows you to rerun any failed migrations.

The following bugs were fixed with this release:

  • When applying a template update that deletes a folder, but you had previously manually deleted that folder, the template update will now succeed.
  • Fiduciary clients are no longer imported as Persons and are now correctly imported as Entities.
  • Connected Desktop no longer scans only in grey scale / negative image.
  • Fixed an error when attempting to drag an email from Outlook to the Connected Desktop.
