There are two types of searches available for located your files or folders in Connected Desktop. The Global Find tool allows you to search the entirety of your account to locate a file or a folder. The Find tool located in the Document View pane allows you to search for a file or folder within a specific client's vault.
The Global Find tool will take longer to process than the Find tool used in a client's vault; you will use the Find tool in a client's vault more often in your daily workflow. You should use the Global Find tool when you are unsure of which client's vault the file or folder is housed in.
You will use the SmartVault PDF Printer to print directly to SmartVault from office productivity software such as Microsoft Word or Excel. The SmartVault PDF Printer prints your file as a PDF to SmartVault and appears in any situation in which you could use a normal printer, so you aren't limited to only printing from Microsoft Office programs.
You may need to securely send a document to someone who has not been invited to your SmartVault account (a client's banker, for example). From the SmartVault Connected Desktop, you can send password-protected PDF files (other file types are not yet supported) to non-clients/guests of your SmartVault account via your computer's default email client (you cannot use Gmail or any other browser-based email service).
Connected Desktop lets you work with the documents you store in SmartVault without the need to manually upload and download the files to make changes. From the Connected Desktop, you can open and view files, edit files, and even print files without the need to download the file to your computer; you can even choose the program which which to open your file.
