Get Acquainted with the SmartVault Portal
You've already seen the SmartVault Portal—you used it to download the SmartVault Desktop software earlier in this guide. However, now we're ready to delve into how you can leverage the SmartVault Portal to help your in your tax practice.
By now, you should be thinking of SmartVault as your document storage. SmartVault extends that storage with the Connected Desktop, allowing you to manage your documents. The SmartVault Portal is designed to give you, your employees. and, if you so choose, your tax clients anytime, anywhere access to any documents you store in SmartVault.
The Connected Desktop and the SmartVault Portal are essentially the same thing—however, you'll make use of the Connected Desktop in your office, and you'll make use of the Portal when you're anywhere else.
The Portal also gives you the option to share tax returns with your clients. You invite your clients and then each client receives access to only his or her client vault within your Portal. You're in control of when and if your clients are granted access to view their tax returns.
