Excel File Does Not Save in SmartVault Drive

When attempting to save an excel document to the SmartVault Drive you may find the file did not save, though you did not get an error message.

You may also get these related error messages:

When opening some MS Office 2010 files from the SmartVault drive, you sometimes receive one of these errors:

Error 1: A file is corrupt and cannot be opened.

Error 2: Excel cannot open the <file name="">because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify the file is not corrupted and that the extension matches the format of the file.

The file may also open to a blank screen with no content.

Microsoft Excel is not capable of handling paths from internet locations over 180 characters.

A path is defined as the Drive, all folders, and the files plus extension the system uses the organize your files. If this path is over 180 characters then you will not be able to save the file.

Ex: S:\My Account\My Folder\MyFile.xlsx is an example of a short path that is only 35 characters

You can not change this behavior in Excel, so all you can do is to shorten folder or files names to get under this limit.

We recommend shortening higher level folders as this will alleviate this issue for all lower level folders. We also recommend not using very long file names as you are more likely to hit your character limit regardless of folder size.

There are other error messages associated with this issue, though the resolution is the same. please click her for Excel errors when opening files.
