Run Reboot.bat to fix SmartVault Toolbar

Table of contents

Overview

Running the reboot.bat file re-registers QuickBooks-related .DLL and .OCX files in Microsoft Windows. This tool is sometimes used to revive the SmartVault toolbar when it has gone missing.

Goal

As seen in the past, it often happens when you've recently had a QuickBooks update to your desktop.

Run reboot.bat to register QuickBooks files in Microsoft Windows:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Open the folder containing the reboot.bat file:
    • Windows 8, 7 or Vista:
      1. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Properties.
      2. Click Open file location.
    • Window XP:
      1. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Properties.
      2. Click Find Target.
  3. Right-click on reboot.bat and choose Run as Administrator.  Note: This step is important, you need to run reboot.bat as Admin.
  4. A Command (DOS) window will open with rapidly scrolling file names. Do not manually close this window. When the reboot.bat file utility has completed, the window will close.
  5. Check to see if this resolves the issue. If not, reboot your computer.

Note: Depending on whether your Windows Folder Options are set to show or hide extensions for known file types, the file may display as reboot.bat or reboot.

This is what was achieved and what was omitted in this how-to.
