What the Client Portal Looks Like to Tax Clients and Guests

Overview

When you invite someone to your SmartVault account as a user, guest, or client, or when someone invites you to use their SmartVault account as a user, guest, or client, SmartVault sends an activation email so that the invited person can create a SmartVault account. The email contains a link that allows the person to accept the invitation and create a SmartVault user ID. After creating his or her SmartVault user ID, he or she can securely view documents.

Feature

Depending on the type of account you're using, SmartVault styles the activation email differently. We've included examples of these emails with a custom branded logo. See this article for more information about custom branding your SmartVault account.

Note: With a Tax Plan, you can customize the email template used to generate emails sent to invite your tax clients. See this article for customizing your user activation email.

For Business Plan users, people you invite to your account are referred to as guests. The guest will receive an email closely resembling this example:

For Tax Plan users,  the people you invite to your account are called tax clients, or just clients. They use a Guest license and you can invite an unlimited amount. Each tax client will receive an email closely resembling this example:

Note: With a Tax Plan, you can customize the email template used to generate emails sent to invite your tax clients. See this article for customizing your user activation email.

The activation form your client completes should be similar to the following image.

After you complete the form, SmartVault creates your user ID and automatically signs you in to the SmartVault Portal.

You can then view, download, and send links to documents. Based on your permissions, you may also be able to upload and edit online document storage in the Portal.

Guests and tax clients have a simpler view in the SmartVault Portal. Your clients and guests do not see a file tree, but instead they see only the folder(s) shared with them.

Benefits

The SmartVault Portal makes it easy to access, manage, and securely share all your files and documents at anytime and from anywhere. Quickly and easily share documents or folders with users inside and outside of your company or firm. You can access the Portal securely from any Web browser or Internet-enabled mobile device

Considerations

SmartVault document access is managed using authenticated login. Files are only accessible to users of SmartVault, meaning that all users must create and activate an account. All SmartVault plans allow for unlimited guest and accounting client users.
