Create Shortcuts to SmartVault Connected Desktop

Overview

You can create various shortcuts to open the Connected Desktop from your computer's desktop or taskbar.

 

If you have a previous installation of SmartVault, you must reinstall SmartVault to receive the desktop shortcut.

Steps

If you have not updated and still have a previous version of SmartVault installed, reinstall SmartVault

  1. Sign in to the Portal.
  2. Click on Microsoft Windows under SmartVault Apps.

  3. On the next page, click Download SmartVault for Microsoft Windows.

  4. Open the file that downloads. Typically you can click on the file at the bottom of your browser, or locate the file in your Downloads folder.
  5. Follow the instructions provided by the Installer Wizard.

    • You might receive the following error:

      Close any open SmartVault applications, and run the file again.
       
  6. During your installation of SmartVault, the installer wizard gives you the option to create a desktop shortcut to the Connected Desktop in addition to the other desktop shortcuts for other SmartVault applications.
  7. When you reach this step in the wizard, check Create desktop shortcut for Connected Desktop before clicking Next. By default, this should already be checked.

  8. Complete the installer wizard and a desktop shortcut for the Connected Desktop is created.

Create a desktop shortcut, pin to Start Menu, or pin to Taskbar in Windows 7 after installation

  1. After installing SmartVault, click Start and type "Connected Desktop" in the search bar.
  2. Right click on the Connected Desktop program in the Start Menu.

  3. Select Pin to Taskbar to add the Connected Desktop to the Taskbar.

  4. Select Pin to Start Menu to add the Connected Desktop to the Start Menu.

  5. Hover over Sent to and select Desktop (create shortcut) to create a desktop shortcut for the Connected Desktop.

Create a desktop shortcut, pin to Start screen, or pin to Taskbar in Windows 8 after installation

  1. After installing SmartVault, access the search feature in Windows 8 with the keystroke Windows Key+S or by right clicking on the Start icon and selecting Search
  2. Type in "Connected Desktop" in the search bar.
  3. Right click on the Connected Desktop program.

  4. Select Pin to Taskbar to add the Connected Desktop to the Taskbar.

  5. Select Pin to Start to add the Connected Desktop to the Start screen.

  6. To add the Connected Desktop as a desktop shortcut, select Open file location.
  7. In the File Explorer window that opens, right click on the Connected Desktop program and hover over Sent to.
  8. Select Desktop (create shortcut).
